Algebra Tiles
During Maths, we explored the concept of algebraic expressions using innovative algebra tiles. These hands-on tools allow children to visually represent numbers and operations in a fun and interactive way.
In their first experience of forming algebraic expressions, the children learned how to express phrases like “2 more than a number” simply as (x + 2) or (y + 2). They also discovered the convention where (3t) signifies 3 multiplied by (t), demonstrating that multiplication is simply repeated addition.
To deepen their understanding, pupils used algebra tiles to represent unknown quantities (like (x)) and for known numbers.
