Beyond The Classroom

Valence House Museum

Year 5 stepped back in time into the world of Victorian Barking and Dagenham with an immersive school visit to the Valence House Museum, exploring the dual themes of work and leisure in this bustling era.

The children experienced the daily grind of Victorian labour with an interactive workshop on work. They wore costumes, handled props, and engaged in role-play activities to understand the various occupations that shaped the local community.

Through an illustrated discussion, Year 5 delved into the diverse forms of work, from child labour to domestic service, uncovering the challenges and triumphs of Victorian workers.
