Celebration of Mathematical Excellence at Our School
Our keen mathematicians from Year 4 and 5 recently participated in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge, an esteemed competition aimed primarily at children in Year 8. This challenging event fosters mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency, encouraging young minds to engage in complex problem-solving. Our children diligently prepared by enhancing their mathematical knowledge and applying it in various contexts, demonstrating commendable commitment and enthusiasm throughout the process.
I am pleased to announce that all participants performed exceptionally well and received certificates in recognition of their efforts and achievements. Furthermore, the children were honoured to attend a presentation ceremony at Little Ilford School, where they celebrated their achievements alongside Year 8 pupils. This experience not only allowed our children to bask in their success but also to engage with older students, further inspiring their mathematical pursuits.
Among the participants, three children truly excelled: Alishaa from Year 5 received a Silver award, while Abeer from Year 5 and Nayem (the youngest in the challenge) from Year 4 both earned Bronze awards. These outstanding results reflect the dedication of our young mathematicians, and it is evident that a promising future awaits them in the realm of mathematics.
London Rocks!
As part of London's Maths Week, Key Stage 2 children engaged in an exhilarating Times Table Competition called London Rocks, which saw participation from various schools across the region. The children demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, setting aside their lunchtimes to compete with peers, showcasing their dedication to mastering their times tables.
This year, we witnessed the largest competition to date, with 355 schools and 2,635 classes participating. We are thrilled to announce that our children performed exceptionally well amidst fierce competition.
Salisbury Primary School achieved an impressive 9th place based on overall scores. In terms of average scores, TF4 secured 18th place, while TF5 came in at 42nd.
We would like to highlight the outstanding achievements of our top three competitors: Leonardo from MF7, who amassed 12,431 points, followed closely by Earon from MF7 with 11,947 points, and Manhaa from MF7 with 11,589 points.
Well done to all participants!
