At our school, we are committed to embedding British values in our pupils' experiences. Each year, every child in Year 4 has the opportunity to run for class councillor as part of our democratic school council. This process is designed to engage students in the principles of democracy and teamwork. Previous class councillors assist in organising the event, ensuring that all children are informed about where to go and what to do. Candidates must prepare a manifesto and present it to their class, outlining why they deserve their peers’ votes. Following the initial voting, the top four candidates proceed to a formal ballot, which reflects adult polling procedures. The declaration of the new class councillors is a thrilling event for all Year 4 students, fostering a sense of responsibility and community spirit.
Year 4 Swimming
This term, our Year 4 children embarked on an enriching swimming journey at Atherton Leisure Centre. This invaluable experience not only served to enhance their aquatic skills but also instilled a vital life skill. Each child successfully overcame their fears, resulting in a remarkable boost in their water confidence and an eagerness to embrace new challenges.
Cricket Workshop
This term, Year 4 participated in an engaging interactive cricket workshop. The experience began with an informative assembly, illuminating the history and origins of cricket. Following this, the children explored various positions within the game and honed essential skills under the guidance of a specialist coach. The workshop culminated in a thrilling match, allowing the children to apply their newfound abilities. It proved to be a highly enjoyable and enriching experience for all involved.
Year 4 Holiday Project: Ancient Civilisations
During the recent half term, Year 4 children were assigned an engaging holiday project that invited them to explore the fascinating realms of Ancient Egypt and Sumer. Each child was encouraged to research and construct a model of either an Ancient Egyptian pyramid or a Sumerian ziggurat, utilising materials readily available at home. This initiative not only fostered enthusiasm for their new topic but also provided an excellent platform for the children to exhibit their creative talents. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants and express our gratitude to the parents and carers who supported their endeavours. The resulting models are truly remarkable.
Enriching Visit to the British Museum
As part of their Ancient Civilisation topic, Year 4 embarked on an enlightening visit to the British Museum, where they engaged with a numerous number of artefacts. This educational visit proved to be profoundly meaningful, as our dedicated teachers facilitated a variety of tasks and challenges for the children to complete. Throughout their exploration of the museum and its exhibits, the children diligently worked to solve the questions and challenges presented by their teachers. The children thoroughly enjoyed their experience at the museum and were eager to share their insights and discoveries upon their return to school.
