RSHE - Relationships
In today's RSHE lesson, we learnt about ways in which we can protect our mental health and what to do if we think one of our friends is going through a difficult time. In the activity 'Relationships Web', we discovered that we are all connected to each other in some way. We started with a ball of string: the first person said "I am connected to .... because we both wear glasses." They then held on to their piece of string whilst giving the ball of string to the person they were connected to. The second child then did the same thing (with a different reason for connection) with a third person until there was a web of string connecting the whole class. This helped to enforce that there are many people in the class we can rely on for support.
Nets of 3-D Shapes
In today's Maths lesson, Year 6 children used concrete resources to consolidate their learning on the nets of 3-D shapes. Their current maths investigation (White Rose Bakery) has involved children investigating ratio and proportion when deciding how many cupcakes to make; solving profit and loss problems; and designing packaging for their products. What really helped them was seeing boxes which were made to hold actual cakes; they were able to understand why the cakes needed space between them and this really helped with their volume calculations.
Maths Investigations!
This week, Year 6 pupils have been using their mathematical reasoning skills to participate in a range of exciting Maths investigations! Working in small groups, our pupils have displayed excellent team-working: taking turns to discuss their ideas calmly and working methodically to find the correct answers. One of the investigations involved doubling the grains of rice on the squares of a chess board to see what number they would end up with - the answer led to the discovery of a new power of ten (a quintillion!).
